Chronic Wasting Tracking
CONTAINMENT AREA: Deer from these counties can be transported within, but not outside of, the DMA2 containment area: MADISON, CULPEPER, ORANGE, RAPPAHANNOCK, FAUQUIER, LOUDON, PAGE
Note: DMA2 may travel to DMA1, however due to increased incidence of CWD, DMA1 may not travel outside of its areas, including DMA2. DMA1 deer may not be brought to our facility.
All game harvested in the DMA2 counties can be tested free of charge. If you are outside the DMA2 and would like to have your deer tested, there is a $35 fee and will require that you drop off at their designated drop off sites. We recommend that you call the VDGIF ahead of time to verify drop off locations and payment arrangements.

DMA2 VDGIF testing protocol: Tag must include name of hunter, phone number, kill date, containment grid number, check in tag number or hunter ID number. Do not tag fawns or deer that are under a year old. There are no separate tags to fill out for the department this year. The department will only contact you directly if your deer is positive. Typically, results are back within 2-3 weeks. Hidden Pines will not contact you for results.
Due to chronic wasting positives in these areas, Hunters for the Hungry is not accepting untested deer this season from: CLARK, CULPEPER, FAUQUIER, FREDERICK, RAPPAHANNOCK, SHENANDOAH

How to hang your deer/bear:
Make a cut into each ankle area of both back legs. hook the winch onto one leg, crank it up and place trolley hook in opposite leg which will secure your deer, then remove winch hook and release it. Push your deer down and around as close as possible to the next deer. Do not leave deer/bear on the floor.
-Place yellow copy on eye hook of trolley for your deer
-White copy in box that is inside the cooler by the door
-You keep pink copy for your records

Additional reminders:
If you selected any specialty meats, those orders will take longer to be processed during the busy weeks of the season; we will call you as soon as they are completed.
Once your deer has been processed and you have been called/texted, you have four business days to pick up. After that time your deer will be donated to Hunters for the Hungry.
